T&B Teaches 1st Year Apprentices

8/27/15

On Thursday 8/27/15, Thomas & Betts taught the IEC's first year electrical apprentices different styles of fittings and the proper use of these fittings. They did this by having the apprentices build a Mr. Steel City.

What added a sense of realism to this education was the apprentices were given a "materials list" of what they needed. They then had to come to the front of the class and go through the boxes and pick up the materials they needed to complete the job. Much like what they would have to do if they went to the supply house to pick up materials for a specific jobsite.

Apprenticeship Graduation Dinner & Ceremony

6/9/15

One of the special moments at the Mid-South IEC every year is our apprenticeship class crossing the stage at graduation. For four years they have worked, studied, taken tests, gotten married, had kids and worked every day.

On June 9, 2015 at Ridgeway Country Club, the diplomas they received showed their dedication to their future and their careers.

Congratulations to the Class of 2015!

You did it!

17th Annual Tradeshow and Wire-Off Competition

5/7/15

The exhibitors for the Mid-South IEC's 17th Annual Tradeshow moved in bright and early on May 7, 2015 and the Wire-Off contestants began at 11:30am. When the doors opened at 1:00pm, people flowed in ready to see over 50 booths filled with new items on the market and watch the wire off enter its final hours. It was a packed afternoon of new ideas and learning new products. Thanks to our vendors for another successful Tradeshow! And a big "thank you" to everyone who came out to spend the afternoon with us !

May is "Electrical Safety Month"

5/1/15

May is "Electrical Safety Month" across many states in the nation. The purpose of the "Electrical Safety Month" is to increase awareness about electrical hazards which is the key to reducing home electrical fires, injuries and death.

The Mid-South IEC took the lead role and contacted the Tennessee Governor's office and submitted a proclamation request that Tennessee recognize the month of May as "Electrical Safety Month".

We are pleased to announce that Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam approved our request and signed a proclamation that May is "Electrical Safety Month" for the state of Tennessee.

NES Teaches Lift Safety to the IEC's Apprentices

4/16/15

When you just can't reach it from here, our apprentices and contractors resort to using lifts to get them where they need to go. Last week, Steve Gross of NES instructed ALL of our 1st year electrical and low voltage apprenticeship classes life safety and each apprentice received a 4 year certification. Not only were the apprentices tested on their safety knowledge, they were required to practice what they have learned on actual lifts. The NES' warehouse was the training ground for these important classes.

Thank you Steve Gross and the NES employees who assisted in getting our apprentices "lift certified".

T&B Teaches 1st Year Apprentices

4/9/15

Thomas & Betts taught both of our first year electrical apprenticeship classes different styles of fittings and the proper use of these fittings.

"Thank You Thomas & Betts"

NLRB Information Reviewed with IEC Members

1/29/15

Mid-South IEC's President, Bobby Carlock,  (center) thanking attorneys Steve Shields (far right) and Ted Yeiser (far left) for providing everyone with very good information at last week's Membership Meeting relating to the Union Ambush Election Rule, the intent of which was to reduce the time for an employer to respond to an election petition, to your workers using an employer's e-mail system for union organization.

Here are some of the handouts that were given out at the meeting that you might find interesting:
